FIGURE SKATING: Australia's Brooklee Han has produced a promising performance as she aims for Olympic selection, finishing 8th at the Junior Grand Prix in Mexico City over the weekend.
Han, who lives and trains in Connecticut, USA, has returned to competition after a recent illness which saw her unable to compete in the Skate Down Under in Sydney.
Her start to the competition was a little under par, and a 1.0 decuction for a fall meant that she finished her short program in 16th position on a score of 39.01.
The 18-year-old was able to recover her composure for the free skating component of the competition however, producing a solid routine to earn her 80.97, the seventh highest score of the free skate.
Han ended the competition in overall eighth position on a total score of 119.98.
American skater Polina Edmunds took out top spot on 171.21 with Natalia Ogoreltseva of Russia and Marian Bell of the USA in second and third respectively.
The next Junior Grand Prix to feature Australian Olympic hopefuls will be in Gdansk, Poland from 18 - 22 September, with Chantelle Kerry and David Karanjec scheduled to compete.
