Fisht Olympic Stadium
The Fisht Olympic Stadium is one of the jewels of the Sochi Games. The dome-shaped venue is located in the heart of Sochi’s Olympic Park and it will welcome the world to Russia at the Opening Ceremony on 7 February 2014. The other events being staged at this venue are Medal Ceremonies and the Closing Ceremony.
The name Fisht stems from the nearby Fisht Mountain - one of Russia’s most iconic. The design of the building - like a shell - was inspired by the elaborate jewel-encrusted Fabergé eggs that are a national favourite.
Visiting the stadium will be a stunning spectator experience. The stadium has open sides allowing spectators to see the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea in all their glory. The stadium also features a translucent polycarbonate roof, which, will be used to project vivid illumination shows during the Games.
Fisht will continue to be used after the Games as a training centre for the Russian Football Team, 2018 FIFA World Cup venue and for other various sports and entertainment events.
